Anxiety

Anxiety in Daily Life. Navigating Challenges and Finding Calm

Anxiety is a natural and often necessary response to potential threats or stressful situations. It is a feeling of unease, fear, or apprehension that can be accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating, and restlessness. Anxiety is a normal human emotion and can be helpful in certain situations, as it can heighten alertness and motivate action.

However, when anxiety becomes excessive, uncontrollable, and interferes with daily life, it may be classified as an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterised by persistent and excessive worry, fear, or nervousness that goes beyond what is considered normal or reasonable. Examples of anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.

It is important to note that occasional anxiety is a normal part of life, but when anxiety becomes chronic, overwhelming, and disrupts a person's ability to function, it may require professional help and treatment. Counselling a person with anxiety is a collaborative and client-centered approach aimed at helping the individual understand, manage, and alleviate their anxiety-related concerns and lead a more satisfying, fulfilling life.
